Twenty-One

First off I'd like to apologize for the short hiatus. The snow made all of my classes fall behind and I've been struggling to get back on track so I had to put some of my posts on the back burner for a bit. This is going to be a bit of a longer post because I'm going to try to catch you up on some things, please bear with me. I had some adorable corny Valentine's Day ideas to share with you but I didn't get to spend it with Kyle and decided to save them for our anniversary instead. I did still make him ABC cotton candy cookies and little jars of candy.

This past weekend was my twenty-first birthday, as many of you know, and I didn't take many pictures but I'll share the few I did. This year my mom did a few extra special things. First, she contacted twenty of our friends and family who I have known over the years and asked them to send a card the twenty-first card would be from my parents. I would like to thank all of my sweet friends and family who sent cards for my birthday. I always love getting mail and seeing everyone's handwriting and personal memories and pictures was so wonderful and made me so thankful for the amazing people I have in my life all around the world. The second thing she did was come up to Kutztown on my birthday to go out to dinner and have my first legal drink. My family also gave me twenty-one gifts that would pretty accurately describe my interests.

I've been anticipating wearing this dress for months now and unfortunately because of the weather I didn't get to wear it exactly how I planned and I didn't get a chance to take pictures of it for a full outfit post. I guarantee you will see this dress in the (warmer) future.

Speaking of a warmer future, tickets for Bonnaroo went on sale on my birthday and after an hour of sitting in various waiting rooms with times of up to 18 minutes and having to restart eight times after the request timed out I was finally able to purchase a ticket for my first festival. You can count on a few outfit posts from the week as I'm already dreaming some up.

I'm also trying to keep my digital portfolio up to date by updating Charpography when I finish an assignment or even go out to do my own work. I'll try to mention it on here when there is new work up but there will also be a recap at the end of the semester.
(please excuse the crazy eyes)

Surviving the Snowpocalypse

When I was finally finished packing stuffing my car to come back to school, my mom said "make sure you pack warm clothes it's going to be below freezing again". Being the wishful thinker that I try to be, I didn't think it could possibly be as cold as it was before and I figured I'd be fine with what I already packed-sans a heavy winter coat, of course. I get back to school and what was supposed to be the first day of classes was cancelled due to the snow. We had class the next day and I checked the weather, 9 degrees, seriously? Totally regretting not bringing my winter coat now but I've got to think of another way of staying warm for that frigid walk. My mind automatically goes to layering and how many I can put on before I become the Michelin man.
This post is about how I managed to go out into the polar vortex without a winter coat utilizing the wardrobe I have. I would also like to add that my anorak jacket (pictured below) is unlined and blocks some wind but does not hold in the warmth. Since this is a special outfit post, I decided to do something different and for the first time I attempted to create simple digital watercolor representations of my most commonly worn/ favorite  layers. I will warn you, I've gotten into what I've been calling organized clashing where the patterns of my layers clash but it seems to work.
I hope you enjoy! I'd love to hear your thoughts.
